I know it doesn't seem like much time but just got back from a 3 week trip and my other two cars sounded like diesels when i started them due to the oil draining when they sat for 3 weeks while i was gone until they gain pressure.

thoughts for my 996? Prime it? Start it?

 

I've had my 986 sit for 4 months covered outside dead of winter with just a cover that I had a battery tender hooked up to and just fired her up. For a 3 week period I wouldn't be all concerned assuming oil levels were fine and there are no pools under the car LOL.

 

ya no pools of fluids so that's good Typically I wouldn't worry to much after 3 weeks but my Camry and BMW I own both sounded horrible upon start up when I returned. Ill prob pull the ignition relay and turn it over a few times to be safe...

 

Pull the fuse and turn it over till it builds pressure , that's what I do after longer periods

 

I wouldn't worry about it. I have the same problem with all my cars and I have the same brands you do. I used to work for a tier one auto supplier and this question came up at lunch with our engineering team. One of they guys worked for Caterpillar in the engine group. There are differences between diesel and gas engines, but not that much in the way engines are lubricated.

I stopped worrying about the low oil engine noise after he informed me that every new engine coming off the production line is tested by running it at full throttle for 3 minutes. No warm up or anything, just start and peddle to the metal.

The 3 to 5 seconds it takes for your engines to build oil pressure after sitting is relatively mild when measured in weeks. Measured in months is probably a different story.

pulled fuel pump relay - cranked for 20-25 seconds - got pressure - plugged in relay - fired up great with no horrible noises.

Fuse C4 thats what i do...crank till i get oil pressure then put the fuse back then start

 

I have no issues after sitting all winter just so long as you kept the battery plugged-in.
I have read though to run it a while until it's hot so as to limit any water condensation.
not just to start and then immediately shut-off.
Drive on!
