Tiptronic manual shifting

Just a though. Since the manual shifting on a Tiptronic transmission is electronic (switches on the steering wheel), why couldn't they have made the shifter simulate a manual transmission, but without the clutch? The steering wheel switches are pretty awkward and sometimes confuse me with the radio volume controls I have on my Buick's steering wheel.

I would buy a shifter that worked like a standard transmission when in manual mode.

In theory switching on wheel is better as you can hold wheel at all times. F1 cars have been doing it for 20 years. Problem is the "Porsche way" with those buttons. Aftermarket wheel w/paddles would fix the problem you are mentioning.

I got used to switch with one side only, up and down. So far so good....

Yes, paddles would make more sense because they remain in the same position as you turn the wheel (I think). The switches move as you turn the wheel, so the switch you think is shifting up shifts down because the wheel has rotated half way.
