If I can't find one, I'll get the GTI.
No, your logic is ridiculous.

You can afford a 997, but want a 996, but you can only afford a MK1 996, but you have the money to do a 10k dollar facelift to MK2, but that puts you back into the 997 price range...

But if you cant find one of these elusive porsches in your country with only one dealership (that happens to be close to your house and owned by your son-in laws brother's dogs cousins owner) between 15-45 thousand dollars you will go to a completely different type of car and get a VW??? Which will be your first car, only second to the subaru that you have had for 14 years, but still first??

Now that I typed it all out, it makes much more sense.

I meant a used '07 stock 997.
The problem is its a long find and maybe I could find a better MK1 than an MK2.

The Subaru was my parent's used for 10 years and now its a spare car that I usually drive.

Anyways, now is the searching part..

Here is a loaded 07 997 for $44,900 with low miles and from a reputable dealer. If your a real buyer it is not going to get much better then this.

I bought a 996 as my first car. (learned how to drive stick on it too!) I went from a 2001 Hyundai Elantra that my parents handed down to me to a 2000 MK1. Wanted a porsche for many, many years (since i saw bad boys, cheezy i know)...saved up for many, many years when all my friends were driving beamers in college. And now i am rediculously happy that I have a ten year old porsche and all of my new co-workers are driving brand new ultimas and sonatas. Do whatever makes you happy. Just make sure that you put in the time to do some serious research and make an educated decision on the car you purchase.

For me, there was no other option than buying the porsche...Nothing like being on the phone in your car and getting yelled at on the other end b/c your engine is too loud to hold the conversation.

you can't be serious!

but if you are get whatever car makes you happy. As for the tires, I've been through an entire set after just 5k miles and then 2 more because of nails and crap in the road.

Its no subaru, and the only thing you could get for 280 at a shop is an oil change and new air filter.

Don't buy it, chances are a you will drive hard and get bit by the rear engine or a heavy repair bill that will not make you happy.

Buy the Golf ad enjoy it, they are excellent Daily Drivers.
