How much did the whole project cost you so far??

I was plannin on doing the conversion...still debating whether it's worth it (due to price)...

By the way..did you get rid of your OEM headlights and bumper already??
If not let me know...I'll take it all!!!

Honestly to tell you i wouldnt recommend doing the conversion because its not as easy and it looks. You have to have a lot of time on your hands.
So far the Front conversion project cost me $3700 using ALL ORIGINAL parts. Maybe $300 more on misc parts will be needed. But we did all the labor which is a lot. You have to cut both sets of fenders (996 and 997) to make it fit.
I only got the driver side headlight left if your interested.

I'm same as you.
I do all of the work myself (bodyman), and I do have lots of time on hands, but I dont think I want to sacrifice $3K into the project

Ahh man. I wish you had the pair of the lights..

Thanks, and keep us posted on the project..pics...pics..pics..

I might start my own "custom" 996 project soon

Well the holes almost match, you just have to redrill 2 of them which is very easy but the exhaust dont match. The turbo exhaust tips are couple inches away so you have to re-weld the exhaust tips.

why did you had to "cut" 997 fender & 996 fender and slapping them together??
What was wrong or "off" on the 997 fender that didn't match the door silloutte of the 996??

Is there a way around it and NOT cut your 996 fenders? (reason I'm asking is cause I"m thinking on doing the same mod and need to know whether to sell my oem fenders or not)

If you use original parts then yes you will need both the 996 and 997 fenders because the part near the door that goes down to the side skirts doesnt fit. We had to cut the 996 and 997 fenders and weld the 996 part on the 997.

There is a chap in the UK that did this with all OEM parts that used the full 997 fenders but he had to cut the entire door jam area where the fender meets the door and modify accordingly IIRC. There's a blog on the net somewhere but I can't seem to find it now.

More Photos

Didn't have much time to work on the car but we got some progress. We have lined up the fender and hood gaps perfect. Installed 997 hood hinges, 996 gt2m spoiler and fixed lots of other things. Yes the front bumper isn't bolted on in the photos and might seem as if it doesnt fit. We are waiting on the front bumper support plastics and gt3 side skirts. Next week planning on painting the car.
