So the past couple of times i have taken my car out it would drive fine for the first 5 minutes then after i would get on it a bit some smoke would come out from the motor but then would go away when i was driving. I took it out today and the same thing but i jacked the car up and saw some oil dripping on my driver side header. I took some photo's to see if any of you could chime in and see what it was. I hope it's nothing too major.

 

i think that will require dropping the engine to fix. oil on header is nor good which can lead to fire. i would fix that soon.

 

Looks like it leaks when the engine gets hot, may only drip on exhaust when sitting still & blow elsewhere when moving. May have to clean engine in order to find out where it's leaking.

 

At that location probably an o-ring on the spark plug tube. If that is the case it is an easy fix.

I hope it's an easy fix. Like i said it really only smokes when i get on it hard. Other then that it's drives fine. If it's a spark plug O-ring does that need to drop the motor?

 

No need to drop the engine to change out the spark plug tubes.

 

take off both mufflers, remove the metal plate covering the coilpacks, remove the coilpacks, pull the tubes out and replace. Most shops can do them in about 2-3 hours on a lift.

 

Most likely the tubes around the spark plugs like Dharn stated.... being a 1999 and if they were never changed ,there is updated o-rings for it.....the smaller o-rings used to be kind of square cut looking, the new ones are round. Might as well do both sides while you are in there.... I would get new tubes as well... To do both sides you would need 6 tubes, and the 6 large o-rings and the 6 small o-rings. You can do the job without taking the mufflers off. Just take the heat shields off and pull the coils out. The tubes seem to come out easier if you warm the motor up first... I actually use a large tap to pull them out I just screw the tap into the plastic tube by hand and then grab it with some pliers and pull it straight out.... The new ones just push them in until they bottom out.

I think it is the spark plug tubes and the oil is coming from above the bottom of the cover. If it was the cover it would most likely be only dripping from the bottom.

To get the tubes out without damaging them the marine plugs shown in this link are very handy.

You can get them a just about any marine supply store. I forget the exact size you will need, but you slide it into the tube and tighten it so that it expands to fit. Then just pull the tube out. Other methods and damage the tube. Not that you will be reusing the tubes, but when I pulled mine out with a pilot bearing puller it cracked the tubes, actually punched holes in a couple leaving small pieces of plastic in side the cam cover. Fortunately I was taking off the covers anyway. Just don't want this to happen to you.

I got mine on eBay but later found that regular hardware stores like Menards also carries them surprisingly. I think it might've even been around $2 at there.

 

I modified that plug tool with a bolt and some washers so I could get it tighter and then get some pliers on it to pop it out.

Turning that silly handle just didn't work for me...
