OEM vs Aftermarket affecting the sale price

Does aftermarket and modifications affect the resale of a porshe 911. For example. Would aftermarket wheels or a different bumper front/rear lower the private sale compared to a "stock" vehicle? If you know you are going to sell or leverage up a model, is it better to keep your vehicle 100% stock.

You'll probably get as many opinions as replies. As you already suspect, it depends on the buyer. If you already made the mods that someone else wanted, it could seem great. Often, mods don't add much to the sale price, but tend to encourage some buyers to purchase and others to look elsewhere. When I have made changes to my car(s), I have tried to do so in ways that I can return it to stock and have kept the original parts. That way, both camps are satisfied.

Makes sense. I post the question because I bent/broke 2 oem rims and are debating going with aftermarket or buy 2 oem to match the existing 2.

Just buy what you want. Worry about resale when that time comes. The aftermarket parts cant hurt the car is they are all put on right and dont look half-***ed! I have seen 996's all done up going for more than stock 996's. Guess it also depends on what you want for the car and how long your willing to wait to make that sale. Like they say there is a a** for every seat.

A car (especially a 996) is a (rapidly) depreciating asset. Do what makes you happy and don't worry about resale value.

+1 Fortunately, mine came with aftermarket rims which I intended to purchase in the long run. Wrapped in new Conti's, I saved over $2K at the point of sale.

I would just do what makes me happy with the car. Why suffer and spend your nights looking at pictures of Porsche's online wishing your car would look like one of them. But, it doesn't cause you are worried of resale. Even 997 owners are tweaking their cars. Even Ferrari owners are. I can't see with all the aftermarket parts going on cars today it hurting the resale value all too much (if any).
