2000 Cab

Get a thorough PPI done at a reliable indie shop that *knows* the 996 - they'll know *exactly* what to look for. A short list for your benefit includes:
- Oil leaks (RMS typically)
- Seatbelt sensor affecting the airbag light (generally a requirement for safety)
- Coolant expansion tank cracks
- Abuse - make sure the PPI includes a leakdown test, as well as an ODBI check for over revs
I would also research the IMS issue. If the car has an oil leak, it might be RMS, or it might be IMS. RMS is relatively minor, IMS .....well, search the posts.

Thanks - it's a local trade at the dealer and supposedly just had the 60k service performed and all records available. Going to take a look this afternoon.
I did check out the IMS issue here but there doesn't appear to be a way to predict failure. I had a 2001 coupe that went to 80k just fine. Rather curious if the cab had a particular set of issues: leaks, rattles, etc...
Thanks All

No, there's no way to predict the future - but I personally would stay away from a car that's leaking oil.
I would also recommend having a PPI done from a 3rd party shop. The 60K service does not cover many of the things I would want examined prior to purchase.
If I don't sound overly trusting - it's because I'm not!

Based on the fact that you had the coupe previously, I would do the same checks in addition to checking for the condition of the rear window and top.
Make sure you do the water test when the top is up to make sure there are no leaks or retraction issues.

Took a look at the car yesterday, drives OK but the dealer didn't know as much about it as claimed. Supposedly has a new soft top but the hardtop was on and it was rainy and they didn't want to remove it. Asked me to come back, also found out the 60k service hasn't been done and passenger side headlight was not working. New sales person and they were not overly informative. Does have a new RMS & clutch.
Thanks for the advice.
