Went through road construction in my lowered 928 and an accident forced me toward a manhole that was sticking up. The cop waved me forward and I just sat there and told him I was not going to make it over the manhole. He got a little pissed as he had to clear another spot but it saved my oil pan...........
I'm glad 1168 fixed it for ya.

Sorry to hear that. Damn speed humps!!! We have the same problem over here and these things have reached epidemic proportions now. A man cant own anything decent these days without being discriminated in some way shape or form. Its as if the only way you can get around on most roads these days is by buying a truck. You may need to re consider raising the car back to stock

Where does that go? And on how many ends? By the time youve prototected the underside of your car against these issues the whole underside is going to be need covering. So, how much extra weight are we talking here and what are you really achieving?? Frankly, i think it all gets down to either taking these ridiculous things so slowly and on such a sideways angle that you avoid scraping or you modify your P to a ride height much the same as a freakin SUV. There are some streets i know of that i don't evn bother with negotiating in my P the speed humps are so high...skid plates or not. So i just take the truck or SUV if ive got to head in that direction....that way i can survive the stupidity of whats going on with the vandalization of our roads and streets. The bottom line is the way a lot of the roads are heading with these humps P cars are being corralled onto freeways and road users in general are being corralled into buying trucks and SUV's to deal with this idiotic nonsense of speed humps. The only winners out of these ridiculous things are the ****** selling them to councils and the councils getting the slings.
I had a similar situation come on driving on a mountain road after a hard rain. noticed a few rocks on the road at one point, and coming around a fairly tight turn saw the road ahead about 2/3 covered in sharp pointed big and little rocks. no other cars on the road. I had to stop, and then thread my way through the rock field. new Potenza Pole Position tires all around and I didnt want to cut one of them, and didnt want a rock nailed something underneath. time froze. I froze, and crept along playing dodge-rock until clear of the slide. stopped farther up the road and spoke with a caltrans crew, and called 911 re the slide once in phone range.
then about a week later, different spot, didnt see a chuck hole in the road, went over it with the left rear 295/30 and heard a major clunk like something had come up and whalloped the underside of the car. nothing fell off, no leaks, just pretty lucky dropped into an unseen pothole and getting out without damage. the rim seems fine, no air leaks, etc, that I can notice. broke a wheel several years ago hitting a piece of firewood that had dropped off someones truck. that was crap. lucky this time.
I think those speed bumps need to be painted by the people that put them in places and well marked. I totally agree with slowing down as much as needed to position the car to get over the bump. no one else will pay for any damage, other mays have to wait a minute, sorry. if there's no warning maybe the placement of the bump, and height of the bump was negligent. worth thinking about. or maybe the car was too low, hard to tell. best bet is to always take them slow and on an angle and anyone with some good iron will understand and give you so leeway to maneuver. sounds as thought it eventually came out ok. cheers,
