Digital Oil Gauge Question

Does anyone know what one bar low on the oil readout means other low one bar? What does this equate to in terms of oil level and how much should go back. About 2000 miles ago I had an oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic. Sometimes when I start it cold from overnight it starts at 1 bar down, then I drive it to work, go out at lunch (4-5 hours later) and it's back up. Generally though it seems to be down 1. Should I add any and if so how much? I've checked the garage floor for oil and non there, although I suspect when high rpms lately (a little openning it up) with most of it highway miles it may use some, or maybe it was low to begin with following oil change?

Any thoughts or help?

Gerardo

Cool

Gerardo,
Which model do you have?
What does it measure after lunch?
How much did you put in when you changed it?

Just had my engine swapped and it was reading at just 1 bar, at the low line. I thought that meant it must be dry, took it to the dealer and he said he put in 1/2 quart and now it reads all the way full....So if that's the case the difference between lowest and highest is 1/2 quart. So you are probably ok if it's 1 bar down, I would think of adding some when it got much lower. By the way, I have a 99....If you are really unsure, check the dipstick...I am sure you are well within the safe range.

Thanks guys for the response. In the example I gave after lunch it reads full. Wierd. Also, it's a '99 996 C2. Thanks again.

It doesn't take much of a difference in the level of the car to change the reading. Just check it in the same parking spot and you'll get an accurate, consistant reading.

I guess that would make a difference and come to think of it the garage is not level. Interesting! Thanks.

My garage floor is slighly sloped and I hae learned that a reading 1 bar down on the digital display is actually showing a full crankcase. That is what I use for a baseline.

My opinion, unless it's LOW like no bars, don't sweat it and I always check at the gas station, they are usually level.
