RMS - Woe to me

Came home on Sunday and noticed oil drops on the garage floor. Well its diagnosed as the RMS. So I guess I'm going down the yellow brick road for the RMS, IMS(LN) and new clutch (feels great but has 45k on it). Any thoughts?

if you do the clutch don't get the LWFW, the gear noise sucks.

If it's just a very minor leak, or "oil weeping" as your dealer might call it, then there's no need to rush out and get it done immediately. You can always put something under the car in the garage to catch the occasional drip, and then deal with the RMS when you get actually need a new clutch.

FWIW, I had my RMS updated to the latest version of the seal 2 years ago (at least it was the latest version then), and it has been dry ever since.

I agree with Dennis C. Based on mileage, a new clutch isn't that far in the future for you. When it seems prudent to do the clutch (and doing it a little early helps increase the chance you can reuse your flywheel), then do the RMS/IMS/AOS/etc. at that time.

Arrow The...

...AOS is the Air Oil Seperator...

The part is relatively cheap... Its the labor that usually bites.

If you are doing the RMS, get some dough together & do the clutch kit & the LN Engineering Intermediate Shaft Bearing upgrade at the same time.

I don't know if doing the AOS is easier at the time your transmission is out, but if it is.. it could not hurt to do it as well.

I love my LWFW. Yes there is gear noise in neutral or clutch in, but the performance is great.

Some think the reduction on weight at the far end of the crank helps protect the RMS while the car sits.

Cheers

If you do some searches on the various boards you will see that there has been some conjecture that LWFW's have caused crankshaft failure. There is one where Jake Raby says that the only crank failures he has seen are on cars with LWFW and pretty strongly recommend against them. Just something for you to consider.
