K&N Air Intake - Opinions

The K&N Air Intake system appears to be a relatively cheap ($340) way to get a quick extra 25 horses out of the 996. However, the installation instructions have a disqualifying note at the bottom stating, "Return car to the original factory air intake system during inclement weather". Anyone out there using this system? What do they consider to be inclement weather? Is it really necessary to change it back?

Not worth the headaches that the oil can cause to the MAF. Do a search here. Good luck on getting 25hp.

It's not going to get you 25 ponies, but I don't change mine for different weather conditions either. Never had a problem with it. If you re-oil it, let it dry out properly and don't over oil it.

Arrow I think...

...you will get a variety of opinions from members.

Bottom line:

1) An enclosed airbox runs cooler (temp.) than an exposed filter element.

2) Colder air is what you want. Colder air is denser air... torque producing not torque reducing.

3) 25hp means zilch if you lose torque from (the intake of) hot air.

4) Wrap your stock airbox in foil (as seen at the track) for an even cooler air intake.

5) Open filters are exposed to the weather and suck hot air regardless of what proponents say.

IMHO, you should just get a flat panel filter (BMC, Green, AFE) for your stock airbox.

Just my 2-cents...

+ 1. BMC, and no MAF issues.
