X73/X74 996 C4S - M032/M030 Questions
X73/X74 996 C4S - M032/M030 Questions
I'm getting parts ordered for a suspension upgrade. I've decided on the X73/74 and wanted to get opinions on a few things.
First, X73/X74.
Gert over at Carnewal suggested I try the X74 shocks/struts on my C4S (vs the X73). He said he's done this on a number of cars and it works well. The X73 is made for the C4S and Turbo and the package includes stiffer engine mounts, but not beefier anti-roll bars as the C4S/Turbo is supposed to have these stock. The X73 comes with the shocks/struts and M030 anti-roll bars.
So, in mounting the X74 shocks/struts on the C4S, assuming the fit is okay the only difference would be weight of the cars which is minimal between the C4 and C4S.
Thoughts on using the X74 shocks on a C4S vs. the X73?
Also, my VIN lookup indicated I have the M032 "touring" suspension; I thought the C4S came standard with the M030 suspension? Do we at least have the M030 anti-roll bars? The sticker under the trunk-lid is faded so I can't see if I have M030; so I wonder if the VIN lookup thing is correct.
I've read a lot of posts here and on other boards -- the X73/74 sounds like what I want. Daily driver, no track use, but "spirited" driving on weekends in the mountain twisties west of Denver. Lots of great wide open "farm roads" around too -- 120mph on two-lane blacktop even without a lot of twists and turns is a BLAST!
I find my current stock suspension just isn't tight enough; want more "locked in" feel at speed - especially on undulating non-highway blacktop.
Thanks in advance!

I ran the X74 on my 2004 C2 for several years and loved it. My car was one of the 40th Anniversary coupes so it came stock with the M030. The X74 uses the same sway bars as the M030 so we replaced the strut/spring assemblies only. Suspension was purchased thru Gert at Carnewal and installed at the dealer locally. It is a "plug and play" installation and engineered by Porsche specifically for these cars, so it works. The X73 is basicly the same suspension as the X74 but designed for use on the turbo and C4S cars. If you do not already have the M030 on your car, then you will need the sway bars that come with the X73. You want the X73 for your C4S so make sure you and Gert are on the same page in light of your specific application.
Ride and handling characteristics are a huge improvement over stock on the street and it is awsome on the track! One word of warning - it drops the car about an inch and a quarter from stock. Gives the car a great "stance" but look out for your front spoiler. The Anniversary cars have the same front bumper/spoiler as your car and it gets LOW.
