2003 and newer cars use the MOST system, which is a fiber optic loop. It connects the amps and the head unit, while the speakers are traditional copper wire. In 2002 cars, this isn't an issue - they don't use the MOST system.

I have heard of new head units being installed into the MOST ring, but I'm not sure how it's done.

Is this even the case with a 2004 with the most basic stereo without premium bose or nav or anything?

I am not sure. I was told that for this reason I would need to get an amplifier. Which I wasn't planning on doing.

Does anyone have the part number for the european double din for Porsche 2002 911 ? - thanks.

Delirium, the installer wasn't sure so he called somebody and they told him I need amplifier (and then rewire bose speakers or getting new ones to get the correct Ohms). I have been reading forums all day and it appears mid to late 2002 models come with MOST amp system and for these models you would need a new amp or try to locate the old pre-MOST amp.

I checked my car door and it is 02/2002 so hopefully I have pre-MOST system. Is there a way to find out if I have MOST or pre-MOST system? The installer did not look at my door so he does not know for sure.

I hope I have pre-MOST. Otherwise it's the new weird optical connections you mentioned.

How do you check without pulling the unit out?

Thanks

Open the trunk, face the car, and the amp is on the left hand firewall. Locate the plastic screws that you would remove as if you are removing your headlights and now penetrate 6 inches deeper into the car. You will see an plastic air-vent, your amp is located right below that.

You do not need to remove or touch your spare tire to get to the amp.

I no longer have mine, but I thought it was on the faceplate, CR 223 I believe. Also, the amp was on the right side of the tire when facing my car.

Not to hijack, but I went with the DN6960 and am delighted with it. The only problem I have is that it doesn't automatically recognize my Iphone when I get in the car. Sometime it does and sometimes it doesn't and I don't know how to tell if it does?

For SoCal installations: http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/

I don't have any personal experience with them but those on Rennlist rant and rave about them.

@Goldduster: thanks, I'll check the faceplate.

Don't know about iPhone yet since I haven't installed my Kenwood yet. Will let you know.

There are a lot of reviews o DN6960 on Amazon, see if anything along these lines come up. I doubt it's common though. Maybe somebody else has more info.

Does anyone have recommendation on installers that have done and have experiences with Carreras?

I have the Kenwood 6960 and haven't had any problems or issues with it. I have my Ipod hooked up to it, not the Iphone however. Actually, I love the 6960 - great Nav system, Blue tooth and DVD player.
