Not to hijack, but I went with the DN6960 and am delighted with it. The only problem I have is that it doesn't automatically recognize my Iphone when I get in the car. Sometime it does and sometimes it doesn't and I don't know how to tell if it does?

Ok. I checked left and right and saw no amp. Is it possible that some cars with the most basic stereo have no external amp??

Sorry - you have just surpassed the level of my expertise. Mine was in plain view on the Drivers side, front corner of the spare tire compartment.

This was a known issue with the DNX-6960 when it was first launched. If you update the firmware, it should take care of the problem. If you push the "Tel" button to access the telephone control screen, you will be able to see if it has recognized and connected to your iPhone.

Yes, the non-Bose system should not have an amp. I think you're in better shape to upgrade your system. I have the Bose system and will require running more wires. I also have to get rid of the headunit and amp at the same time.

Your speaker wires should be connected to the headunit.

Dennis - Curious where you had install done. Also can you tell me where you found the P logo for back screen on DNX? Looks good.

jeneric996: I have the CDR-23 head unit in my car though which is the same one that the bose amp uses right? So where would the power for my speakers come from? Also I see you are in so cal like me, do you know any good stereo shops that are trustworthy to do a good install for a good price?

delirium: I highly recommend installer Mike Mukai. I have worked with him back at CarMate in Glendale in the mid-90's. He has moved a few times from Sprewell in San Gabriel to now, I believe, Auto Sound Innovation in Studio City, CA. I don't know the place, but he is great. Give him a call and see if he is there. Inquire and mention "Eric from Carmate" recommended him.

My Bose amp recently died again, but this time out of warranty. I'm thinking about upgrading the entire system with an aftermarket set up because those amps cost about $650 for reman or $850 for new.

I checked out the CDR-23 headunit and it should have built-in power that is supplied to the speakers for non-Bose systems. However, I could be incorrect because I have not fully researched your set up. The connectors from the molex plug to the headunit have speaker connections too. I assume they are used for non-Bose systems like yours. With my set up, the speaker wires connect to the amp in the trunk.

I had it done at Highline Car Audio. Ask for Travis.

I found the background image on google images. I just searched for Porsche splash screen, and several images came up. I downloaded three of them, and ended up choosing this one.
