Normal Temp?
Normal Temp?
Hi,
I have a 2001 911 C2. I wanted to know if the temp on my car is normal.
The first one was about 80 degrees outside and the second was about low 60's.
Both were driven normaly in the city.

Thanks for the help.

Based on my experience your temps seem a bit high. My P-car ('02 Cab, manual) runs just above the 180 mark: the needle goes right though the "8" when on the highway, and between the "8" and the "0" when in slow traffic, 70-80 F outside air temps.
Check behind the front bumper and vacuum out any trash, leaves etc. that have accumulated against the A/C condensers (they are what you see). You may also want to drop the front bumper and clear out trash from between the A/C condensers and the radiators (which you can't see)--renntech.org has a good DIY article on this. After that I'd start checking thermostats etc.
Good luck.

Looks about normal to me based on mine.
Edit: Looked today after driving around for at least 30 min at about 62 degrees F.
Mine stayed dead between the 0 & 8. It gets to the right edge of the 0 like your top pic, when it is really hot out.

Ditto
That needle position looks very familiar; it's about exactly where my '99 C2 likes to run. Having said that, I'm willing to bet that my radiators are full of debris, as I don't think they've ever been cleaned. That's on my project list before summer comes.
Once my 99 C2 reaches full operating temperature, my needle never passes the notch that indicates 180 degrees. Right on the money.

That looks normal to me as well. My radiators are clean. I added a jumper wire from one relay to the other for each side of the car so that when the signal goes to the low speed fan to turn on it now turns on the high speed instead - it helps cool much quicker and takes all of 10 minutes to complete.

Thanks
Thanks for all the replies guys. I've been planning on cleaning out the radiators. I'm going to do it thursday.
My dad had said that we should do that. Ive noticed it gets hotter the slower I drive or at idle.

The OEM thermostat starts to open at 187 degrees and is fully open at 210 degrees. So the range you are looking at is quite normal. Also remember that the thermostat is on the return to the engine, after the coolant has passed through the radiators and been cooled down. The temp sensor is on the engine after the water pump. At the sensor temps may be slightly higher, not too much as it is before the coolant enters the engine block. When the coolant exits the block it is significantly hotter.
