I dont believe this was an IMS failure. Its just one more way these engines die....

These posts just make me ill, I love my Porsche.

Me too, and I don't even own a Porsche yet! I've been following several threads like this as part of my research before buying a low mileage [14K] '03 Targa at a dealer, but the more I read, the more skeptical I get.

I really wonder just how prevalant these issues are; meaning that people with problems tend to post threads to get answers and feedback -- people with trouble-free cars don't. I think forums tend to be skewed towards the dark side of any model.

Then again, if it's your engine that goes, you're the one thats skewed!

Very Skewed! Dont regret mine for a second, just hearing about these things makes me sad. Get a PPI and remember, Low mileage cars seem to have even more issues, so dont pay a premium, and when you get one, drive it like you stole it, thats what they are made for.

Great! I'm not clear though: Did they ever do the borescope and if so what were the results? Tx

Yeah. Just wondering if a problem up in the cylinder head could have contributed to or caused the bottom end to fail. I guess you know we want you to go for the LN bearing
