On-Board Computer Dead due to Rodents

Hello! My On-Board Computer on my 2004 C4S is dead at 26,000 miles due to rodents feasting on my wirings. According to the dealership, they have no way on retrieving my original mileage. Is there a back up on my On-Board Computer? Is there any other way to retrieve my original mileage. Just for my piece of mind, any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Why would the computer be bad its a sealed unit.and if they order a new wiring harness it should plug in to the ecu and be ok.

What ^ he said, just splice up the wires or get a new harness. The computer should be fine and sealed with the miles in it...

I called couple of Porsche dealerships. They said it's possible to lose the mileage if the rodent chewed the right wiring or harness. Still dont understand. Thanks guys.

has nothing to do with clean.they use the wire to make their beds..
they also search out your washer fluid bottle ..be nice if they drank the coolant
then they would just die.

what you can do although not pretty if your storing you car..
get Cajun pepper 100,000 BTU powder sprinkle around your car..when they walk on it and go to clean their feet WHOA that burns.

The ECU could be damaged if wires are short circuted. This may have happend in this case.

yea but with the car off i just don't see that happening ..unless the rat was laying there dead..i fixed cars for a long time and have seen alot of
rat nests and chewed up wires..fuse should blow before any damage could happen.if the rat hit a 12 volt wire and grounded it..it would start to melt.

What if 12v was connected to an ECU output, or a low level input? Can 12v be connected to any ECU pin without causing damage?
