V1 Question -- I know, yet another

Ok, I just received my V1 today. I will eventually have it hardwired in the car, but I am having an issue for now until I make it to the shop to have it done (or do it myself). The cigarette plug does not seem to fit inside the outlet of my 996 -- (a 99' model)???? It works fine in my wifes car. Anybody else had this problem?

When I ordered my V1, it came with a small fitment peice for just such a situation. I have no issues with my 996 and the V1 and have no need for the part, but check your box, you might have rec'd this as well. If not, you can check at your local wireless communications store, they have them from time to time. Of course, you didn't specific if the hole was too big for the plug...if it's the other way around, I'm not sure how to help ya.

My plug is a little loose in the outlet. I just fold a small strip of paper to help hold it in place.

Sloth & Robyn-

Thanks for the help. The adapter seems to be too small for the plug? I will try and mess with it tomorrow when I have more time.

Thanks!

tsweat,
the porsche lighters are notoriously small, you can to any auto-parts store and buy a replacement cig lighter unit...then again, the adapter should do the same thing.
As far as hardwiring it, it really is pretty simple to DIY

Hard wiring V-1

A V-1 is really easy to hardwire yourself. Here's how. Your V-1 should be high on the windshield in order to retrieve both front and rear signals. Either put it on the visor or use suction cups. Run the power cord around the windshield molding across the top and down the side. Use a plastic putty knife to push in the cord. If there are areas where the cord will not stay behind the molding, ball up some electrical tape and push it in that spot. Run the wire down the side and into the crease in the LH side of the dash. Continue running the cord under the dash to the center console. Gently pull out the CD/tape holder and also gently pull the side panels; both the carpeted one and the leather/vinyl panel. Inside the console you will find a multi-wire plug. In that bundle of wires, look for a green/black wire. That is the "switched" wire you want to use for the V-1. Strip off about an inch of insulation off the red V-1 power cord. Fold it double and insert it into the female hole that corresponds with the green/black wire. Wrap tape around the plug to hold the red wire in place. Find a suitable screw/bolt in the console to attach your ground, replace panels and holders and your done. Shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes. It is difficult to mess this up and you'll learn something about your car.
Go for it.
