HI ALL,
Hoping to find any help regarding installing
1999-2004 PORSCHE CARRERA 2/4 911 SMOKE LED TAIL LIGHTS I recently purchased for my 2004 Porsche 911 40th Anniversary Limited Edition? Please see link below (from ebay) on exact purchase and how the wiring looks. I am hoping I can install without any electrical cuts or splicing to have done.

Please help!
FYI: It fits perfectly, but the wiring end tips look totally different and I can't seem to understand the instructions of plug and play application.

Hey are you sure the 40th anniversary doesn't have the WIDE turbo rear? i thought it did for some reason and those lights wouldn't fit. If they do, here is how you hoook them up, goto FLY996's post in this thread he has a photo of how they should be! the top one with the R is the passenger light (post #7)

ps: you will need to get a RELAY (so you dont get cruise control fault or hyper flash) its just you take out a relay and put this new $20 one in, very simple **some people have had to get resistors as well, but thats very very rare if you get the relay**If you have a 2002-2004 you need to just buy an LED flasher RELAY, they are about $20 and you exchange it with the one in your car, just unplug yours and plug the LED relay in- thats it- the relay is near the clutch, turn your turn signal on, and you will hear it clicking on the left, reach up and touch the relays and you will actually feel the clicking, then you pull it out and install the LED FLASHER RELAY IN- it doesn't come with the lights so you need to order one, i got mine from a place called superbrightleds. com. part #CF13GL-02

996 anniversary has the standard narrow C2/C4 rear end, but has the turbo front bumper. its an anomaly. but those tail lights should fit.

It fits, thanks @balefire. I just had to order special fitment red bulbs to color the smoker. Thanks guys, I found out it was a simple switch, since the harness was a whole unit, no splicing, cutting or re-wiring was needed, just a little ingenuity. lol.

Now it's time to upgrade the car for performance...please add suggestions for my 2004 Porsche 996 (911) 40th LE...

Hello! I am installing these same lights later this week... Would you mind putting a picture of your car with these lights up?

I just installed smoked LED tail lights on my 2000 996. No hyper flashing but only the passenger side of the tail light is lit when in day light running mode (I live in Canada). When I manually turn on the headlights, both sides are lit and everything else works.

Can anyone who has installed load resisters give me some guidance on how to install them? Do you just splice them in to one of the wires on each side?

I've never worked with resisters and could use some help.

Thanks in advance.

Question: The Clear Smoker lights that you are about to install, are exactly the same as the e-bay link I posted above? If so, it may trigger your ABS/PSM light to turn on and you may experience hyper-blinking as well. I went from several Porsche dealership, Porsche certified, Porsche pro mod shops and endless long nights and could not figure out how not to have any ABS/PSM dashboard lights popping up before barely changing into the 2nd gear. I understand fixing the lights to normal blinking speed, but to have that ABS/PSM flash at me because it does not recognize that Smoker LED Rear Lights everyday...That's enough to return it while you still can.

I installed a 25w 8ohm resister between the brown and black wires of each of the tail light/ brake lights and everything works great. I can use the LED third light again and my day time running light problem is fixed. No error codes. Very happy.

Hey,
I rephrased my statement above, I did most things Except did not want to splice or cut any wiring to install a resistor. Did you have to cut or splice any wires to connect to the resistors? If so, I was not willing to cut any original wiring. Kudos to you. I decided to go back to originals, but will keep in mind the 25w 8ohm resistor. Where did you purchase it and will it work for a California Porsche?

Please post photos!!!!

I used a set of resistors and splice tabs like those in the link below.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Load-Resisto...#ht_1979wt_922

You don't need to cut any wires. You simply clamp the tab over first the black and then the brown wire leading to the brake/tail light socket with a second wire leading to either end of the resistor. The tabs pierce the wire casing to make a connection and can be easily removed later with minimal exposure of the wire.

Here's how to hook them up.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/pdfs/...istor_info.pdf

I bought my resistors at a local electronics store for $4.50 each, but had to solder on my own wires.

You need to mount the resistors onto the body as they heat up. I drilled a small set of holes on the back wall of the tail light enclosure and used metal screws to hold them in place.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos.

Bringting this thread back...I did all of this and my only issue is that my LED 3rd brake light dimly lights up when I turn on my running lights. What can I do to fix this? Other people have reported this and I have not seen a follow up as to whether they fixed it or not.
