Shifter Removal Prob

I'm trying to install a Carbon shifter. I currently have the stock shifter ****/boot in the car. Its the plain jane standard one. I have popped the bottom loose and pulled the bag over the ****. I don't see any bolts but I have applied a ton of force pulling upwards and the **** won't budge. Its almost as if it is glued on or something? There is some black leather section that seems kinda hard that is beneath the grey leather of the shifter bag. That part won't move up. Am I missing something?

Some shifters have a set screw, if yours does not then you have to do what you have to do to get it off. I had to damage mine when removing it because there is no easy way to get it off. Good luck and don't hit your self in the face while pulling on the shifter.

Nope mine doesn't have a set screw at least not one that is visible. (The new carbon one clearly has a set screw) It won't budge at full strength exertion. I'm 180 lbs and workout regularly and I can't move it one millimeter. I guess I'm going to have to cut the plastic or something, but I'm afraid that if I can't get it off I'll be stuck with a damaged shifter boot forever.

If you pull hard enough it will come off, just don't hit yourself in the nose.

Or the forehead!

It is a real PITA to get off, you can straddle it for better leverage, just don't pull towards your head (I know, it's weird, but it works). It is really on there GOOD. You will have to use some brute strength, just ensure you have loosened the boot from the center console first, that will ensure you won't tear or break any of that piece. (which is sounds like you have done.)

This is the one you have, right?

Yep, that is the one I have. I've removed it from the center console. In fact the center console is completely unscrewed also since I'm also installing a handbrake and GT3 console delete. I just need to get the shifter off first. I've hurt my wrist pretty badly pulling upwards. In fact I just tried with a vise-grip plier and it wouldn't budge. I'm starting to wonder if a Porsche factory worker thought it would be funny to super glue it.

Just call my friend Ric. He did a speed shift and pulled the ****, and boot off faster than you can blink.

yep yep, i hat to remove mine when installing the B&M and all you have to do is pull straight up on it....was on there good though, it sounds like you have the entire shifter with the boot attached to it, removed from the car, this will make it more difficult, unless you can some how secure the ****er in a vise and pull up on it without damaging anything....

Finally got it by opening the sunroof and standing with a leg on each seat and pulling straight up. Thanks for all the help. Was about to perform a c-section, but it decided to pop out without it.
