Coolant Leak

Hi everyone,

Today when I drove the car and came back there was a reasonably large amount of coolant leaked under the left rear exhaust. I have read through the other thread regarding the coolant leaks others have had and im wondering if I actually do need to replace my tank. Below are pictures I took of under the car. I do have the old Blue Coolant cap, but there doesn't seem to be any overflow around the cap after the leak, does that mean the cap is fine? Also when i unscrewed the cap I heard the pressure release. Anyone know if it could be anything else other than a crack in the tank?

i don't think its your coolant tank that is leaking cause its still look new..usually a yellowish tank due to old age & has a hairline crack underneath & leak under high pressure..from the look at the pics..it could be your waterpump going bad from where the leak is..mine leaked the same area & it turns out to be the waterpump..also check the hose & clamp to make sure it not broken or loose..if you can see leaks near the waterpump pulley area..than my best bet that it is the waterpump going bad..I'd go with the pink stuff instead of the green one if you do need to change the waterpump.....just my .2c

Thanks Zookie, I'll definitly keep that place in mind, I might remove the airbox and see if I can get a better view to find out exactly what the problem is, I was planning on doing the repair myself

Also, Thanks MkC2, I didnt realize that it could be the water pump too, also the coolant tank does seem reasonably new and not yellow at all

Remove air intake pipe that goes from airbus to wing it should just pull apart n u can get a good look. Waterpump is easy to install just drain coolant remove 1 nut n 3 bolts unhook 1 hose n install new pump save urself a ton of money on process

Coolant leak

I had a similar issue with my car I have an 01 cab. When I arrived to pick it up it had a small leak so they figured it was the tank and replaced it. About two months later same problem, so I cleaned the area (including the floor) let it dry fired up the car and let run. I found out the return hose had a pin hole on the underside under the clamp. So I removed the clamp and cut it back about 1/2 inch and re-installed the clamp...on more problems. Hope this helps.

The hose and clamp shown in picture #2 don't look to be in great shape. I would start there.

So I removed the airbox to get a closer look and now i'm pretty sure its the water pump, as you can see from the picture it looks like the pump bearing is gone as the pulling is rubbing against the bolt. I'm going to order a new water pump, most probably from Suncoast and i'm going to change the Belt as well since it doesn't seem to be in the best condition. Anything else I should consider before I go ahead and order the pump? I checked the hoses and I don't think those are leaking

Also has anyone purchased a non-oem pump as the one below, or would it be not recommended?

As a double-check, you can remove the belt and see if you can wiggle the water pump pulley, and try spinning it too. That should give you reassurance that you're doing the right thing. I would change the hoses and clamps as well, but I'm speaking as a boat owner who likes to stay ahead of things like that.

If and when you do remove the water pump, inspect the impeller to make sure no pieces have broken off.

And get real hose clamps, dump the spring clamps.

I will pickup some good clamps, also I think im going to go with the ebay waterpump, after doing some searching on the forum I see a few people used the same one from the same seller, this has the metal impeller instead of the plastic impeller in the stock pump. They seem to have no problem with it after a few thousand miles, also its only $107 instead of $270

That true too, does anyone have any further experience with an aftermarket water pump?
