rust on rotors, $800
I would look in the dealer's lot to check the condition of the rotors in his new car inventory. Here in high humidity FL, all untreated steel rusts, including brake rotors. It seems to take about 2 days to begin to see it. Also, there is no requirement in the Porsche warranty that the car must be used every day as a condition to keeping the warranty in effect. I would not think that failure to use it every day would constitute "abuse"...So, if the rotors are damaged by rust that does not result from abuse, I think you do have a legit warranty claim if they are in fact damaged. But on that, everyone's BS meter is pegging. BTW, who is the dealer? Finally, if PCNA actually did state it intended to provide brakes that can be damaged by non-use (and presumably have impaired performance by that damage) think about the liability Porsche would run. Lots of high income people own Porsches as weekend cars and they all properly rely on the brakes working when called on to do so. If one crashed beecause of these circumstances the potential liability award would be astronomical. You might want to consider writing to PCNA confirming what you were told by the telephone rep you spoke with, and asking what was the logic for PCNA's position. I would be real interested in how they reply.
Question: Is this unsightly and did you ASK them to replace the rusted bits? Or did the service manager say that they are rusted and inihibit the brakes from properly working therefore you need to replace them. If you asked abou them and they are indeed working properly then the answer is no, they will not replace them under warranty. If they are indeed not working properly becuase of the rust buildup then it sounds like a warranty issue. If it's just the rotors, I suggest you heat up the brakes for a while and see what it looks like, any canyons or track days in your future? Take it there and have fun, then look at the rust, it should be reduced significantly if not completely...
BTW assuming there is some failure do to some severe rusting that is not foreseeable enough or abuse that you must replace nad PCNA will not foot the rotors are cheap from susnet, 110 for fronts and 98 rears or thereabouts and can be done yourself in very little time.
With some bitxhing, Schneider Nelson in Long Branch replaced mine under warranty... It looked like ****. They have to do something with the lug nuts as well. I think there was a recall or a bulletin posted.
I had the car in for service, mentioned that the I was feeling a shimmy when I braked and asked them to check it out.
BTW, the serice manager just turned down the warranty claim, but said they may be able to obtain a "good will" credit from PCNA and will let me know.

Sounds like a warranty item.......I would talk to a service manager and then the general manager....Did you buy the car there? I found my salesman has been VERY helpful in getting me accurate information on the status of my car and in helping me get the dealer to repair something.

Not likely that rust is causing your shimmy. That's usually warped brake rotors from improperly torqued wheel bolts...
Probably not applicable in this case, but what parts of the car are covered by the corrosion warranty - is it just the body? Am I wrong about porsche even providing such a warranty? For some reason I thought there was a 5yr or 10yr warranty against corrosion.

I left our 02 Cab on the Cape for 3.5 mos unused. Did the normal storage stuff. Rotors were all clean by I backed out of the driveway with light pressure on the brake.
When I bought our 91 Cab it was garaged in Naples for 2+ months before we went down. Rotors were fine.
Glad you're checking it out.
BTW, pictures always help when defending your case. You never know when you might need them.
Good luck!

I don't think that the wheel bolts would really be it but would be a fix assuming the main cause, the screws holding the rotor to the hub are loose- worth checking one of mine was!!!
PCNA came thru and paid for the repair under warrenty, saved me a lot of money, I am grateful, but should not have had to contact PCNA and raise a fuss, should have been covered all the way
