rust on rotors, $800

My 1 yr old C4 is in the shop, the service manager tells me my rotors need repair due to rust damage, I use the car year round but only have 5K miles on it. This will cost me over $800 and he tells me this is not covered under warrenty, does this sound right?

What?? How did you accumulate that much rust where the rotors need replacing? My rotors get surface rust after a wash or rain, but it scrubs off as soon as you apply the brakes. Get a second opinion.

Yes get a second opinion
But if you have to replace it, you have to pay because its something you use and therefore there is no warranty.

I would report this dealer to Porsche. They are trying to rip you off. See if they will put their diagnosis in writing stating that the rotors rusted which ruined them. If that is the case, which is extremely unlikely. they should replace free of charge.

I've seen used 911's for sale that have rust around the caps of the rotors. It's unsightly, but not a reason to replace them. Rotors are pig iron. If they are within thickness tolerance, brush them off and repaint the non pad surface. The pads will take care of the rest druing normal driving...

sounds fishy. i think he's refering the hub area. usually it's a easy fix with some engine primer/paint. if it's really that bad & need to be replaced i don't see any reason why it doesn't cover under warranty.

btw, when i picked up my pervious Turbo, the rotor hub were rusted & dealer replaced them under warranty when the car had 30 miles on it.

I've work on all kind of corrosion on aircraft and I don't see your rotors getting rusted through in that new car.

Put a wire cup on a die grinder and blast the rust off the hats and vanes sections and then use some of our brake caliper paint to pretty it up and protect it from rusting again.

There's NO WAY your firepaths are rusted through!

I spoke with PCNA, a useless person there told me this is not a warrenty claim. She claims that because the car is not used daily , rust can build up on the rotors and this is not their fault

I agree this is BS and have raised a complaint with my local dealer (Fred Baker) service manager. I'll keep you advised, thanks for the advice
