New Sound System...In Progress...

When researching other's complaints about the base 996 sound system I once read somewhere "What shocked me wasn't that Porsche put such a terrible sound system in a $70k+ car...what shocked me was the prior owner left it in for 8 years!" Couldn't have agreed more.

I'm in the process of updating my sound system and thought I'd share some pictures.

-Factory Metropol Blue Carpet over a custom subwoofer box
-2 8" Solobaric Subwoofers
-3 Way CDT Speakers up front with 3 way crossovers
-Factory style wiring with molex connector ends
-Kenwood XR-4S digital 4 channel amp
-Door speaker add, wiring run, factory enclosures to be used..haven't settled on whether to modify the factory door panels to add grills or try hunting down some used door panels with speaker grills (Hi-Fi or Bose)

I share some final pictures once complete.

Hey guys. I actually found the enclosure on craigslist. Someone had it custom made for their C2 and sold the box on craigslist. Method Sound can help you out. I know the installer has a few standard designs he likes to use. If you are in Socal I'm happy to meet up so you can copy the design and/or take pictures. I'm not too sure of the airspace. I can try to estimate it when I get the car back. No, once I qualify to sell things on this forum I plan on selling everything that came out. Head Unit, Lower Storage Pocket and pop out CD storage bin thing.

I wish I could use black..my car has the Metropol blue. LA Dismantlers didn't have any blue ones that are not leather in stock. So I think my installer will have to custom cut my doors to install grills.

The CDT midwoofers have been installed into the stock enclosures with epoxy bonded mdf rings. Car should be down soon.

Sorry for the lack of details. Will certainly provide all once complete.
CDT components for all
-Mids are 6.5" CL 6M or HD 6M, I have to double check with the installer.
-3" Mid Range in custom plates that seal (minimal to air loss) against the 4" hold in the grill
-European 20MM tweeter
-EX30 3-way matched crossover
As for clearance issues..I'd imagine they would cause clearance issues with stock door panels. My installer actually seperated my stock panel into its two parts, upper (vinyl) and bottom (carpet over plastic). He will be reforming the lower half to contour over the new speakers, refinishing it and finally recarpetting it with OEM Metropol Blue Carpet. Once complete he will fuse the two parts back together. Should end up looking factory in terms of workmanship but won't look exactly like the Hi-Fi or Bose style door bottoms.
I can ask him if Stock Doors would have fit. Mine did not have speaker holes to begin with so it is hard to say. Here is what I am talking about regarding the door panel.

Looks like its coming together very nice. I have the CDT HD 3 way setup as well, powered by ARC SE2150. Very happy with it.

I cut up the stock dash grilles, I fit a HD 4" and tweet. The 4" was a tight fit and I had to grind the edges of the cast basket. It all looks stock from the outside. My 6.5 in the doors first started out sealed, I don't think I had enough airspace and it was too tight. I ended up making my own mdf plate behind the grille made and dynomatted the doors, mid bass is great tight and can get lower if I want. Sometimes I listen with my subwoofer off because the 6.5 sound so well.
