Carmax's offer
My friend Andre, who has worked for carmax for over ten years said to let everyone know who has called me a "stroke", that you guys would make great carmax employees and that they are taking applications! Go for it guys.. Big bucks await. Plus, you can protect poor 'ol Carmax from getting stroked by little guys like me.
I am not getting into the hater debate but wanted to chime in on Carmax in general. I have gotten offers from them a few times, for myself or for clients, and have found them to be very competitive actually. I have not sold a Porsche to them though so my personal experiences may not offer much light. I find you can usually get about 5% more than they offer pretty easily but not immedate and not as easy as dealing with Carmax. You can get 15% more but you have to be a very patient person. I really like Carmax for what it's worth. Again, FWIW, in terms of your car (which looks very nice) if you listed it on Ebay I doubt you would get much more than $23k. I would put the over/under at $24k. It's still a buyer's market.
Wow, people like larryallen, carbonnissimo and Tarek should make a good living in the used car market dicking people over for a living. 23K for this car, not a chance. Like the other guy said, throw it on Ebay or Autotrader and you should get at least 27K pretty easily (although prepare to get a million calls from guys just like these select few on here, attempting to offer you nothing for something and still can't come up with the cash).
Good luck with the sale and try to sell privately at least for a couple of months. These cars (99-04) have bottomed out around $20 unless they have a severe problems.

...on one hand you say that he will EASILY get $27K for his car and then you turn around and say they have bottomed at $20K. This car, albeit very nice from what I can see, will not bring a dime more than $25K in a private sale. I have sold 8 cars myself in the past 5 years on autotrader and cars dot com...three of which were Porsches so I am speaking from a good deal of experience. Not a hater, just a realist.

There is a big difference between a ragged out 99 (MkI) w/100K+ miles, w/ 14 owners, and an 02 (MkII) w/ 25K miles. I said they seem to be bottomed out at $20K which is where you find the 99's (not to say there are not a few exceptions to the rule), but generally you will not touch an 02+ w/this kind of mileage around here for anywhere near $20K, they are usually around $30K.
If he's got the time and patience then $27K should just be the beginning. $27K assuming his car is in the condition it should be in, is a steal. I looked at a 99 in Houston when I bought mine, but opted to pay quite a bit more to upgrade to the 02 w/even more miles.

If he said he knew the mgr from the start I would have never called him a stroke...

I sold a 99 C2 with 70K... within a year there was: new clutch and flywheel, RMS, 60K service, tires at 50%, Leather redressed and looked new, Agency Power Sport exhaust, brakes were at 60% front, 100% rear... SOLD March 11 $17K.... it was well marketed but today's prices are not great.....
Maybe you need to READ first before you type genius...i said the car was worth much more than what he was offered! My comment to him was about wasting sales peoples time, aka being a "Stroke" just going to shop a # with 0 intention of selling
