Question Exhaust Tips

Sorry for the newbie question. A search did not get the info I need. I'm intested in changing my stock '01 996 tips. I've seen many options on Ebay that I would be interest in, but they all seam to clamp on were my stock tips are welded on to a flanged piece. Do I just need to grind the welds to replace with the clamp on type or do I need to replace the flanged part also?

Thanks!

You need to grind the welds and pick up a set of clamps from your dealer. They run about $35.

BTW: We sell the clamps for $11.73 per each, but like I said you should be able to unclamp and reuse yours....

Does the OEM quad exhaust tips fit on the 01 996 c2? I've heard differing opinions. I've also heard that with the 01 rear bumper, the quad exhaust tips will protrude from the bumber making it look weird. Is this true?

The stock tips are simular to theese from fabspeed. The welds are on the outer edge and inside the tip.

you don't un-weld the tips from the angular tubes. you just replace (un-clamp) the whole thing with new ones.

I did it with the 02+ sets.

Try Dansk.
They make quadpipes that look just like the factory style for all 996 version pre '02 cars and post '02 cars. And yes, that includes narrowbody versions.

Thanks for the replies and tip sources. I installed my Fabspeed cans yesterday. Grinding the welds on my stock tips would do nothing for me. The pipe itself is flaired inside the tip. The whole extension from the flange on would have to be changed. The tips that I'm seeing on Ebay that just clamp onto a pipe would not work.

Are there any pics of the quads installed on a pre 02 car?

Haven't seen them installed but I've seen pics of them standalone and they're an exact replica. I think they have to be a bit smaller given the narrowbody cutout but I don't know for sure. can't tell from the photos I know that much.

There's a dude outta the UK who regularly sells them on Ebay. I know Dansk offers them. I would call their US rep. in Los Angeles. His name & number is listed in their ads...check an excellence.

A few years ago with my '79SC I used their sport exhaust and spoke with him...nice guy, very helpful.

I would do this mod to my C2 but I already bought & painted a factory turbo rear so I'm going the factory TT route.

Good luck...It should look awesome!

go with factory sport tips...you can find them used pretty cheap that and a BMC made my 2000 sound pretty good as the outlets are much bigger
