I just bought a V1 because I needed another detector, so I thought I would give it a try. Note I have been using Passports for years and I have been very happy with the 8500's features. The V1 is very sensitive, too sensitive. It falses waaaay too much IMO, the thing goes bizerk (sp) at every bank. I'm sending it back.

dude read the review, it's funny how when it comes to detection,

they leave out the most important part of the V1, which is Directional arrows. With other detectors, not only you get alerted, and you **** in your pants, you also gotta worry where the signal is coming from.

if you have not figured out from this post, i say V1. I have 2.
I am a slow driver, but it has warned me 7 times so far that if i was going fast, it would have been a ticket without it.

Are you confused yet? well you should be, this is Yellowbmr talking..

The last straw today happened when all 4 arrows were going crazy as I drove by the bank. Gimme a freakin break.
I'm sure it's a fine detector, but too much daily aggravation for me.

I thought about that, I could disable x and k bands and hit the mute button everytime it goes off since it doesn't auto mute. But all that's kind of a hassle that I don't have to do with the 8500. Plus the signal indicators a hard for me to see (not the arrows, I'm not that old yet).
As I said it's a fine detector, but for MANY reasons it's not for me. For the record I thought the arrows were gimmicky but that's just my opinion others really like them.

I have a V1 and passport 8500 both good but the V1 is more sensitive. If your doing alot of city driving go with the 8500 freeway driving both will do. They will save you on those leadfoot driving on the open highways.

Go here so you can see that the V1 beats the Passport Solo 2 by 1/3-1/2 mile in every radar band and the Solo 2 can't detect POP radar and you have to change batteries all the time.

DO NOT BUY A V-1...Now after 32,000 miles (that's in the past 12 mnths), about 30,000 with V-1, I've been in 15 or more states from Calif to Kentucky, at speeds of...well, never mind, I"M CONVINCED I'M INVISIBLE, and they (you know who I mean) can't see me. I repeat, do not get a V-1. It will do bad things to your head, and your driving habits.

Yeah, I saw Radar Roy's report, read the whole thing, his overall rating on the S2 was 5 stars, V1 4 1/2 stars. The S2 picked up every band at 4 miles, yes the V1 did it at 4.3 miles, so what. The V1 also had the worst score on the filtering test. By it's cordless nature, the S2 is relatively ineffective against POP, however, if you use the power cord it stays on all the time and picks up POP. He also refers to the V1 as the 'chicken little of radar detectors' due to the unacceptable number of false alarms. Only very recently did V1's even pick up POP (version 1.8 and up, 1-1.7 don't), and they may not pick up POP3 at all.
FWIW, mine is a daily driver, I only need to change batteries every 30 days or so. Well worth it for me not to have some dorky cord draped across my interior.
