You can remove it or not, I don't think it matters.

I removed it and pressed the button but there was no response. The light on the fob blinked when I pressed it but it did not do anything . Is this key toast? I have another spare key and both are not working although I tested only one.

When it blinks, does it blink real fast as long as you hold the button - or does it only blink about once per second. I had a fob go toast on me for no reason. It started blinking once per second instead of fast. Fast is good - slow is bad.

It blinks several times, not just once. The spare fob also does the same..

It seems everyone is talking about the key(s) but no one has mentioned the fuse(s) or alarm module which can be at fault as well. Everyone that is having issues, do you have an aftermarket radio installed?

No, I don't have an aftermarket radio. I have the original porsche radio.

For people who have one working FOB and one not, it is easy to rule out the fuses and alarm module...

Multiple blinks are good. If both fobs worked before and now do not, you should check the fuses for the remote entry system - does the security light (on the dash) blink when the doors are locked? If everything checks out, you are left with having to go to the dealer for diagnostics.

Durametric should be able to detect alarm fault codes if you know anyone that has one. Might be worth a try first.

Also check under driver's seat for any dampness or loose wires.

Yeah, I would suspect the alarm system, not the key at this point
