Escort Solo S3

After being impressed by my Dads Escort Radar detectors both hard installs and the portable 9000 series with GPS and updatable programming.

I went with an Escort Solo S3, it's the battery powered unit as our 996's only have one power receptacle. This I thought would work best.

I have to say that I am really disappointed with it. The false alarms are maddening. I have yet to see it pick up a real police radar.

I have seen the higher end Escorts in action and they a much better product. But the difference between the 9000 units and the Solo 3 is night and day!

I have no experience with the Valentine units.

Just some food for thought in case anybody is looking for Radar solutions, save up more cash and go for the 9000.

V1 rules over Escort 9500ix. That's based on real testing.

You should disable x band. Maybe even K band if it's not used by LE. It'll help with false alarms.

I've used BEL products for years. I currently use a BEL RX-65 Driver, but it's getting a little bit old. I did send it into the factory to be recalibrated and to have the newest "TSR" update done to it. I'm not sure about your area, but in my area the city uses K-band radar to monitor traffic flow on the major highways. It's very annoying. By activating TSR, the traffic speed radar won't cause false alarms. I know Escort and Passport radar detectors have this feature too.

I'm probably going to have a BEL system installed permanently in my car soon. I like the idea of the unit being "stealth", not only so the police don't see it, but so potential thieves don't see my current unit up on the windshield. Permanent detectors often have passive radar/laser scramblers, which is a nice option.

I agree I like the stealth look. The less things people can see the less they want to take it
