Coolant Pouring out on my '03 996!!! only 19k mi.

I came to my shop today and after parking for a few minutes my car realized there was coolant/anti freeze pouring out from the rear. I went under the car and saw it is only pouring out at the small hose end near the clamp. So its Sunday of course... I am 20 miles from home. What do I do. No low coolant light yet. No check engine light yet. What do I do?

Don't start it, have it towed somewhere you can fix it or have it fixed. If you can't stop the leak on the spot and then refill with distilled water before driving it further.

Don't add incompatible coolant either otherwise it will gell up. Top off with distilled water, or if a large quantity add the proper 50/50 mix Porsche coolant only.

Don't open the coolant cap while it is hot otherwise you'll have bigger problems.

You don't want to risk driving it with low coolant or any coolant "pouring" out of the car. This is a surefire way to destroy your engine.

Are these hoses prone to leaking? I am wishing I was in my 993 tt today badly.

I would say you are only 20 mi from home, find some water, filler back up and try to make it home or to the dealer... which ever is closer.

Keep a VERY close eye on your water temp gauge b/c like is stated above, running your engine hot is like asking for it to grenade
If it starts getting hot, pull over imediately and turn the car off.

I had a hose spring a leak about 10 miles from my house. Fortunately it was right in front of a grocery store. I went in and bought 4-5 gallons of distilled water. Filled the tank up, drove a couple of miles, filled it again, etc. etc. I think I added water about 4 times on the ways home but never overheated. This was a pretty bad leak but the system holds a lot of water.

The hoses have a pretty good track record. That being said on any car hoses that are almost 10 years old might need some attention. On my 1999 car I replaced many of the exposed hoses even though they seemed fine some were starting to show signs of weakness after having been removed and installed a couple times.

I filled it up. Made it home. 185* all the way. Got a two inch hose clamp from my machine shop. Let the car cool. Moved the factory clamp over more towards the drivers side on the hose then mounted my two in stainless clamp to the right of it very tightly. The factory clamp is now on the chamfer side of the barbed fitting and this seems to help seal combined with the steel clamp. I started the car up and now it is not leaking. I guess now these hoses will tend to warp with age. Now I need to wash and wax. There is coolant all over the back of the car from the drive.

Do replace the hose so you don't get caught with the problem again.

Yeah. I talked to my engine builder. He was able to be reached on a Sunday ;-) he is going to get me a new hose and clamps. Should be good to go. This thing holds a lot of coolant. How much coolant ? This is my first liquid cooled 911. So please excuse my lack of knowledge on these cars.

6 gallons. Be sure to watch the level of coolant for the next few days. Be **** about it. Carry some 50/50 mix Porsche anti freeze in your trunk and be prepared to sit around somewhere waiting for it to cool down should it get below the min level.

well.....(drum roll)

Water pump impeller was bad $995.00 parts/labor

did the hoses, gaskets, and the water pump. Sucks to happen at such low mileage though.
