2000 996 hard start

I picked up my new to me 2000 996 on Friday. I stopped to fill up prior to leaving Dallas and driving home to Florida. When I did my first fill up, the car had a hard time starting. I felt like an idiot at the pumps cranking this thing. It finally caught and idled a tad rough but smoothed out. I filled up 5 more times on the trip and the exact thing happened every time. I did not overfill the tank and always filled up at 1/4 tank. The car would start just fine whenever I stopped somewhere. It was only during fueling that I had the hard start issue.

Could this possibly be a fuel pump problem? I am coming from 944 land so I don't know as much as you guys about the 996's. I just dont get why it only happens during fueling. I have searched every forum out there and couldn't find an answer.
