First Porsche & first post

I have been an admirer of Porsche cars for several years. I made a promise to myself that before I retire and when I decide to give up motorcycle riding, some day a Porsche would be in my garage. I’m pleased to say I’m now a proud owner of a beautiful Guard Red 2001 911 C2 6sp. What an exciting car to drive!
I’ve been visiting your Forum from time to time taking in all the knowledge that makes Forums like this one so informative. Though I’ve always been a mussel car fan and no stranger to cars, I look forward to learning from the wealth of your combined knowledge and experiences.

Thank you all. I gave up my 2009 Harley Street Glide for the Porsche.
The car was just shy of turning 54K and except for some rock chips on the hood, it was exceptionally clean inside and out. I paid $25,000 and out the door just a tad over $27,000.
But I need some help already! One of the rear wheels had a nasty curb rub mark that had to go. I attempted to carefully sand the spot but quickly discovered a copper color surrounding the sanded area. I have ordered a replacement wheel and they tell me it is a highly polished wheel not chrome, that looks just like chrome. My wheel seems to have what appears to be some kind of clear coating over the polished aluminum.
I hope they are right that the wheel is a highly polished wheel and isn't chrome. Now that I have looked at it closer it doesn't appear to chrome, besides I wouldn't have been able to sand it so easily if it were chrome. I ordered the replacement wheel so I hope it's an exact match to the other wheels. What is the coating and what is the copper looking ring that surrounds the location where I sanded. Any thoughts?
I know now that I can't sand and polish out any scratches.

Chrome plating is normally plated over a copper layer. The layers are only microns thick so if you power sanded you can cut thru it easily. It is possible that the chrome was only used as a rust protectant and then coated with a color and a clear coat.
Nice choice on the car color.

Welcome to the club and congrats on the car!

Re wheel, it's triple plate chroming... 1 coat of copper, 1 coat of nickel and 1 coat of chrome (chrome is actually a clear coat)
When chrome gets polished (as opposed to "washed") it very quickly starts to look like aluminum.

Hope it all works out for ya.

Really? Is that what I have? It looks like chrome with a clear coating. However the place where I'm ordering the wheel from (www.finishlinewheels.com) said it's a high polish wheel. I don't know now what the heck I have on there. All I know is they are stock 5 spoke twisted that look like chrome plating but may be polished and clear coated.
Can someone tell what they are???
