yesterday I drove my 2000 996 cab on the highway and i heard a boom.I thought I blown a tire so i got off. After checking the tires there was no problem. I went to costco to fuel up and the car wouldnt start. After several tries and 10 minutes of trying the car started,but it cranked for a while .Its done nothing else strange but I'm concerned. The car has 31 thousand miles and maybe something needs replacing. Has anyone else encountered this?

 

Is there a check engine light? If it flashes, have it towed somewhere. If it is steady...

Are there any stored codes (you can have the car computer scanned for free at most auto parts stores).

Any other strange noises coming from the engine area?

 

how does the engine bay look like? any leaks/drips anywhere?

 

Do you have one of those "cold air intake" hoses that attach to the factory airbox? If so, the plastic cap that goes over the hole in the top of the airbox have have blown off.

 

oh dear, any smoke? rattle from engine?
