18" to 19" wheels

considering getting 19" wheels. in my previous cars including M3, S4, which all went from 18" to 19" after market, the ride became much rougher and road noise defitely got worse.

with my current C4S, with the ROW suspension, i already noticed the rough ride and increase noise... do you think getting 19"s are going to significantly exacerbate these problems? or can't get any worse!!

thanks again for your input.

Tires make a big difference in ride comfort and noise, however, getting bigger wheels will always result in a harsher ride.

IMO, it's worth the added looks. But if the compromise in ride is not something you are looking to experience, I'd stick with the 18s.

I have pss9's which made the ride rougher because the suspension is so much stiffer, but that's the way it has to be. Is the rougher ride worth better handling? Hell yea! But to each there own. The same when I changed from 18's to 19's. Gave up a little bit of handling, but the car looks awesome and it still handels well. 18's do provide a better ride, but as always, it comes down to what you like and what you're willing to sacrifice.

Any upgrade (whether it's a plus one application or not) will effect ride comfort if that is your main concern. You're going with a larger wheel and to keep circumference, a smaller series tire.

If you go with a 19" but want a "quieter" or "softer" ride, you can try different tires...you'd be surprised, take it from me - I've had over 15 sets of rims in my tuning lifetime and the brand/type/style of tire makes a HUGE difference.

thanks. i sold the 19"s on my audi back to 18" to get better ride as it became my daily driver. i guess the question is whether it's worth it for the porsche.... i am almost going to say yes, since it's only a weekend car and it's loud and stiff as hell anyway!!

but thanks for the good pointers, definitely need to think hard about it!

I'm sure people will chime in here, but here's my list of tires I've personally used:

Quiet/"Soft":
Yokohama AVS
Michelin Pilot Sport 2
Bridgestone SO2
Pirelli P Zero Nero/ "Red's"

Stay FAR AWAY from Nitto and Falken, everyone I know that has had these (including me on past cars) complains about road noise - you get what you pay for.

I'm sponsored by Toyo and actually run the T1-S on my C2....great tire for the price in my "unbiased" opinion.

I noticed a big improvement going from Conti's to PS2's even though the Conti's were 18's and the PS2's are 19's.

I am running Falken ST 115's on 19" wheels. I couldn't disagree more with the STAY FAR AWAY comment above. The ST 115 is VERY, VERY quiet, and the performance is very good as a street tire. I can't comment on track performance yet.

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the whole "N-spec" voo-doo that Porsche uses to sell tires through their dealerships as the only means of judging that you will get what you pay for.

If you are looking for street tires, I think the Falkens get the job done quietly, attractively, and capably... at almost half the price... maybe I am getting more than I paid for???

My experience was with the Falken GRB's - perhaps the ST115's are "quieter", in your experience.
