proper replacement for console CD holder

fairly new noob, so pardon if I get something wrong. Long time lurker, infrequent poster.

My 03 996TT has the lame (4) CD holder in the dash console. Its useless for me. Is there a way to remove that piece, and is there a simple cubby available so I can throw some usual car stuff (ie garage door opener etc) in this "cubby" vs the ridiculously small center console below armrest that requires a contortionist to swivel and get at? ?
Assume its a factory part, but.....

NIKAS is infamous around these parts
I installed the "GT3 console delete" and cleared that area completely. Storage for phones and sunglasses in arm rest or door pockets. Much cleaner and purposeful appearance, and my daughter can watch the heel and toe dance from passenger seat.
