Project Clutch/IMS - Pics

Hello All!

I have my car at IMA Motorsport in Chantilly, VA and they have been awesome at documenting the R&R of the clutch/IMS.

Here are some of the pictures so far!

On the Lift:

Transmission from the 996- Good news, no oil leaks!!

Here's the clutch- Let's take a look at how much wear there is....

The clutch was close to the rivets. You can see the heat marks on the pressure plate.

Flywheel looks good- Next we'll pull it and inspect the IMS Bearing

Flywheel removed! Here you can see the buildup of the used up clutch material

IMS Bearing removed

And here is the old Dual-row IMS bearing. You can see the grease forcing past the seal, and when you spin it, there is definitely uneven resistance... This bearing was on it's way out!

I'm at 99K now. I wonder how long before I have to start messing with the chain, etc... I think the next thing on my list is to upgrade the suspension... I think I bought it at around 95-96K and so far I have done the following, plus this clutch/IMS:
1- Installed new ignition switch
2- Installed new spark plugs and seals
3- Mob1 oil change
4- Replaced outer tie rod
5- Upgraded stereo components
6- Added CAI

Engine related, I guess I have only really done spark plugs/seals and the oil... Should I be doing other engine maintenance when I get her back?

Great that you got this done before any major problem occurred. One comment, it does not look like they cleaned up the area around the IMS and RMS before they removed the IMS cap. This is advised to keep contamination out of the IMS.
