Track Tire Suggestions?
Track Tire Suggestions?
Hey folks....I am trying to figure out what tires I should order....Have been thinking of either Toyo R888 or Yokohama Advan A048 but I have been told that these are not that good as my only set since I would be using for street and that they are not good for wet conditions. I also had some friends mention that these also break away fast at the limits which is not good when you are just learning. Suggestions have been get a low cost performance tire to start with for my first season that reaches limits at lower speeds with a more gradual break away. One suggestion is BF goodrich gforce T/A KDW 2. Any thoughts? What tires do you use?
The R888 and the A048 are true R-comp tires and are not good in other than dry conditions although the R888 are better in the wet. If you are going to daily drive and use for track the KDW are okay. I'm going to try the Hankook RS3 for my next set. Check the UTQG rating the lower the number the sticker and more wear prone the tire.
if you don't drive your car a lot and it doesn't rain much in your area you could get away with the A048 or the R888.
Also what sizes are going use?

I tried doing a search and didn't find what I needed....I guess I need to learn what key words give the right hits.

I've tracked my C4 for over 6 years now and use it as a daily driver. Best all around street tire so far is the Yokohama AD08. Unbeatable in the dry and pretty stable in the wet as well. Great for DD and within 1 second of my R-comps on the track.
For R-comps, did not like the Yoko A048 which never gave me consistent feel/grip on the track. LOVE the Nitto NT01 which is fast, consistent, and durable. Have 7 track days on my current set and probably can squeeze 1 more in before they cord.
If you're a newb to the track, I'd recommend a good cheaper tire like the Dunlop Direzza star specs which I used to run. Also have heard good things about Kumho and Hankook for cheaper tires.
