Ebay seat covers for 996
I recently started seeing this seller sell these covers. I was thinking about getting some black with yellow stitching and piping, since my car is yellow. The price is definitely cheap enough. Anybody ever try these? Guess I'll give it a try soon, and let you guys know how it goes.

Cheap enough is not something I put on my Porsche. Seat covers always look like......... seat covers. If those are half-way decent they would still need professional installation to get them perfect.

If you buy hog rings and pliers for around $10 in ebay, some shoemaker's glue, and lots of patience, you could do it yourself and it will look just fine. The thing that throws most people off is that you have to unglue/glue, vs. unscrew/screw.
Or you take them to an upholstery shop in the cheaper part of town and they'll charge you $100 to put them on.

If I do these, I plan on pulling the seats out myself, and then taking them over to a really good upholstery shop that did work on my 65 Mustang and Jaguar. As the auction suggests, professional installation is probably recommended.
And while I take great, almost borderline fanatical, care of my Porsche and have spent thousands on maintenance and upgrades, I don't really care to spend a couple grand on recovering my seats (although, I've had them re-dyed several times). So, if there is a way to get seats recovered for a good price, I'm interested. I know they won't be as nice as new Porsche seats, but hopefully they'll be nicer than 12 year old worn seats.

Peterpokerplane,
I, too, was interested in these seat covers. I'm looking forward to hearing how they turn out for you.
I was already looking at these and have been in touch with the vendor. I asked if they would send out a sample of the leather so I could compare and contrast to the seat leather on the car I'm getting (yeah, I know, already shopping for a car I don't own or have possession of
) and they said they would sent a sample out.
I know others say "only the best for my Porsche" (and I'll get flamed for the following because I'm brand new
), but my opinion is that maybe these "seat covers" (actually reupholstery for those that didn't click the link) aren't "Porsche OEM quality," but I think that as long as the leather is "decent" it will make a much nicer interior than beat up, worn out leather seats that are in the car now.
I may cross shop a leather re-spray/re-dye/leatherique option for the seats as well, but am also not convinced that it will turn out "Porsche OEM quality" either.
I personally like the contrast color stitching that is subtle and tasteful. Some contrast stitching "execution" is tasteful, some not so much (gaudy). But it's been a "trend" since at least 2002 in Ferrari (some 360's) and has been prevalent since 2007. In my opinion, it is a little less garish than some "leather with piping" interiors. Another "trend" I like is Alcantara interiors, but not everyone likes those either. To each their own.
Anyway... Post up pics and PLEASE do a review of your thoughts on the quality (fit, finish, leather quality, etc.) of these if you get them!

Ditto. I would like to see these professionally installed. If they are as advertised, they are a great deal.
I looked at the eBay advertisement and am wondering if the $199 is for labor only. Reason I ask is...down in the Costum Made Information the first line reads "Buyer must pick up the leather and stiching color". Maybe it's a typo and should read "Buyer must pick out the leather and stiching color". If the price shown is for a complete set and is as good as the dealer says, then it appears to be a good buy.
