Look in your owner's manual. The whole headlight assembly slides out for easy replacement of all of the bulbs.

There is a special tool in your toolkit. Pull the carpet down in the frunk. There is a big, black, round rubber plug that you just pull out. Insert the tool and turn it ( I forget which direction, forward or back) and it will click and the whole light will just pull out. There are no wires to worry about.

It's far easier to change bulbs on your 996 than it is on most cars. After you do it the first time, you'll be able to change any bulbs in under 5 minutes.

Also, when you put it back in and turn the tool the other way to lock the headlight assembly back in, it will click again. The first time that happened, it scared the **** out of me, because I was thinking I broke the assembly, but the click (which is VERY loud, at least on mine) just lets you know that it has seeded in it's housing properly.

What they said ^--

By far the easiest front light replacement of any car I've owned. The HID conversion is easy too. Here is a video that might be helpful.

Just a reminder to make sure the headlamp assembly is properly in the slots or you may break the stationary connector if you force it to lock. How do I know you ask? LOL

Hi,
I just recently did this and used the exact same video...very helpful and easy as everyone has suggested.
However.....my left turn signal still does not work. I replaced the bulb but it's still not blinking. I also noticed that the bulb I took out did not have a broken filament, so my conculsion is that it's not the bulb at all. After I replaced the headlight assembly (I did it twice, using two new bulbs) all of the other lights (i.e. the actual headlight) still work, so it's not a case of the assembly not fitting tight when I put it back in.
So....does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there a fuse for the left(steering wheel side of the car) blinker that I should check, and if so, any suggestions (and/or pictures) on where that would be?
Thank you.
