I think that with regards to ANY replica, quality and safety are always put after cost. That is the point of replica's... to reproduce something expensive for less.

As for whether they are unsafe, I don't believe that there would be any kind of crash testing done in regards to that like is done with OEM seats.

That being said, I have been eyeing the Replica CGT Reclining Sport Bucket Seats but cant justify replacing my current ones

I don't know why the website is saying that... they are a site sponsor here if I am not mistaken. I think they are asking 2600 for the pair. If you do it, please post pics and let me know how you like them.

I like them. Yes they are replicas, but the cost of the originals is outrageous, even from a wrecking yard. Safety-wise, who knows? If you get into an accident serious enough to cause your seat to shatter or break, I'm thinking a whole bunch of other factors could probably kill you just as easily. I'll be buying these seats as soon as I can find a way to hide the purchase from my wife =)

What about the seats not being FIA approved?

I heard if you do get hurt in a car accident minor or major. The estimator will see the seats and check if it's FIA approved. If not, the insurance will not honor the claim. So you're f*cked.

I'm thinking of going Recaro SPG or Pole Position route instead. Plus I'm going for more of a Cup car.

Too general of a question. Some might be acceptable others junk. Typically I never put "replica" parts on my authentic Porsche. For me, if you want Porsche seats, save your money and buy Porsche seats. As my wise Momma taught me; I f you can't afford them, you don't need them. And if you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it.

I don't know, seeing as how 997 GT2 seats are going for about $8000 a pair:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...497fa2&vxp=mtr

...and plain old used OEM 997 C2 seats going from $4000+ (or $2000+ if you a tan interior) before shipping... I'd personally rather spend that $8000 on a turbo kit, which of course wouldn't be OEM Porsche, but I'd sure enjoy the hell out of it. Again, $8000 for a pair of used GT2 or GT3 seats? Anyone who buys those needs to have their head examined. If the FIA certification keeps you awake at night, there are always Recaro seats.

This isn't entirely true. Check with your insurance. Any aftermarket FIA approved seat expires after a certain amount of period. I believe 5 yrs? You have the option of sending the seats in for recertification after that period on certain companies. You're in an accident that "was" FIA cert. (say the seats are 7 yrs old), does that mean your insur. won't honor the accident claim?
