What is a reasonable price for a 2004 Porsche 911 40th year Anniversary Non-working?
Hi all,
Found a seller selling a shell (non-working, busted engine fail) 2004 40th Year Limited Edition Porsche 911. The stats behind it is perfect, just one thing, engine is non-repairable and considered catastrophic and only solution is a new or used engine. A quick run down of the vehicle. All maintenance record is up to date. No accident, that's right, NO Accident at all. No knicks, scratches or bumps. A few mods, typical ie: Exhaust, ECU Tune, Air filter kit, wheels & tires, short shifter, a small rear spoiler, and new aftermarket clutch AND flywheel. Everything else is stock, except what was the added option on the Limited Edition vehicle. Car is at 59k mi. OBD II from dealer checks out clean, other than what was originally declared the issue of the engine failure, cylinder misfire 1 and metal in oil filter. The vehicle did get a new Complete valve job, but did not fix or repair the engine and was still declared non-working. Interior is prestine, exterior is immaculate. Bottom line, car's history seems well taken cared of and the case of bad luck for owner and engine busted. So how much for a 59k mi. 2004 Porsche 911 40th year Limited Edition???
Thank you for your expertise and opinion.

The 40th AE is an interesting car with some interesting options - upgraded suspension, cooling, styling and of course the X51 engine.
Without the engine, I'm not sure how much of a premium the car would command....
Used crate engines range from ~5K+. I haven't personally seen a used X51 crate engine, so if you want to restore it to it's original form, you might need to go for a brand new engine from Porsche - which is around 15K (for a standard engine, not sure how much for an X51). Or you could buy a rebuilt engine from Flat 6 - a little more expensive than a regular Porsche crate engine, but (IMHO) much more bullet proof. Either way, you're probably looking at 20K installed.
A working 04 996 with that mileage is probably worth 25~30K (**complete SWAG here as there is *so* much regional and seasonal variation).
So if it were *me*, I would have a lot trouble pulling the trigger on this at all (there are so many great working cars out there). BUT if you're looking for project then the math says no more than 5~10K.

I concur. 40th is worthless without the x51 motor and resale would be affected by no x51 or a non original engine.

about 9-14k depending on condition and upgrades. I have a '00 Aero 996 that suffered an intermix issue w/ a cracked head and that repair was just at $7500 had i stayed w/ a stock rebuild. Only diffrence is my block was usuable. If you can get the car for about $10k and put 7-8k into it you'll have a nice fresh car with all the internal upgrades "ims/rms" for around 18k.
My mechanic is actaully in your neck of the woods in long beach, ca. PM me if you would like his info. Also was the motor torn down tosee the internal damage yet? You may still habe a usable block.
