it sure does, open your trunk/deck lid and under on the right corner you will see a decal that explains this.

We sometimes get "Summer grade" fuels at our local station, I'd recommend finding some octane booster and adding to tank, then adding higher octane when avail. If you have not "chipped" tinkered or re-flashed your ECU, you should have a factory mapping for the odd batch of bad fuel courtesy of Porsche Engineering. Even the EVOMSit has a variety of mappings for various octane levels.

Just come out to Long Island. Drive up to someone at the end of a long gas line and offer to sell him 10 gallons of your regular for $100 (you'll need to bring a 5 gallon jug and a gas siphon with you). Then wait in line to refill with premium at $4.79/gal, earning a tidy $50+ profit and eliminating your low octane problem.

Whoa whoa whoa.

While you should not make a habit of using regular in these cars enough owners do (the animals...) that if the engine were at risk we'd be seeing a number of "engine blowed up with regular" posts.

The engine will be fine.

The weather is cool which helps if you need or want an edge.

Just as soon as you can top up with the proper grade of octane and relax.

After reading this forum a ton, I have been able to deduce that if you drive that car with 87 in it:
1. Your rear main seal will immediately start leaking.
2. Your intermediate shaft bearing will start to quickly disintigrate
3. Your Air/oil separator will get all clogged up and need to be replaced.

Get a ppi. (wait, have you already bought this car?)

You DEFINITELY need 0w40 oil. That is the ONLY oil the factory approves. Or, alternatively, you should ONLY use Motul, or Redline, or some other oil that costs $15 a quart.

Have you called Jake Raby yet? I heard he is working on the "Octane Guardian"

I guess I don't know what else to add other than to say my common sense tells me you will be just fine.

Sorry to throw additional fuel on this low octane fire, but I just had to weigh in to prevent mass hysteria if someone reads this post in the future. I blanked out one day while filling up, and forgot to select the fuel type (pump defaults to regular) filled the tank with 87 octane before I realized. I drove the car normally down to about 1/4 tank (where I usually fill up) topped off with 93 and the car was fine.

As many others have stated, do NOT make a habbit of running low octane fuel, but a tank or two will not lead to death or destruction.

Go to the Auto store and get some "fuel additive" for now. Look at the products before buying and get one that will help with this situation.

thanks

got the fuel down to a little less than half a tank and refilled it with 93 octane. I never heard a ping or a knock from the engine and the car seemed to run fine on 87. I also didn't push it and never went past 4000 RPMs so I think I avoided any issues. thank you for all the posts.

If a Porsche runs fine with the crappy gas in California ( including the "special additives and ethanol), it will run fine with about everything else, anywhere.
BTW.. did you know what using more than 15% Ethanol will possibly detonate your engine... Government is now toying with the idea in increase that component... Just check this link http://content.usatoday.com/communit...1#.UKqeyIdZW1U

I hope your Porsche is a late model car.... :-)
