Want to buy a 911

I have always wanted a 911 and I am ready to pull the trigger, I want to spend appx 25k. This narrows it down to a 1999 to around 2002 911. The problem is I don't know what to look for in buying a used Porsche. Are there any inherent issues with these early 996's? Any help from you experts will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also any one selling please let me know

Keep reading. And try not to freak out. Any 996 and early 997s are susceptible to IMS failure. Even so, it is rare. Your best bet is a car that has been driven regularly and properly serviced, with supporting documentation. Any used 911 has some risks to consider. You'll never avoid that risk. Do your best to minimize the risks and then enjoy your car. My C4S has over 118K on the odometer and it's still running well. I don't worry about it.

Tons of info on here and Renntech. Ims is an easy fix if you are worried. I gave up on my search of 911's. i made deals of 3 different cars only to find major problems or major oil leaks with all of them. After about 6 months i stumbled across one that was too good of a deal to pass up. As it turned out the car has been perfect. No leaks. Clutch had been done etc. even if i end up having to do an ims rms and clutch i will still be well ahead with this car. It just depends on how theyve been maintained. Ps. Out of all the cars i checked out the 02 was the worst one. Oil leaks, clutch was shot etc. i ended up with a 2000 C4 vert

The 2002 - 2005 996 has a 3.6L engine with a redesigned IMSB and RMS. It's still susceptible to problems, but the newer design, the less likely the issues.
