PSE Problem

I have a 2003 C4s with Porsche Sport Exhaust. The light on the PSE switch is now on and cannot be turned off. The exhaust is constantly in "quiet mode" as well. Any ideas? relay, switch, etc.? I haven't found anything on this issue.
Thanks for the help. I miss the rumble!

Do you have the cutover between 25 and 45 connected?

It is a fairly simple system. Could be the switch, the relay, the cutover valve or some shorted wiring.

I am not sure where the cutover valve is. Can you direct me and I will check?

The cutover switch should be mounted on a bracket near the positive charging lug on the right side of the engine compartment. I can't find a picture right now.

If you are a member of renntech.org you can download the TSB on this install.

I found your diagram that you posted on Rennlist, and located the cutover valve aka switch over valve. It is connected. I followed all of the vacuum tubing as well and it all seems to be intact.

The switch would have to be connected to provide the vacuum to close the valves, but it could be defective.

Try removing the wires from the switch and see if it releases the vacuum and the valve close (loud position). If the valves don't open then that might indicate the cutover switch has gone bad.

It is stuck in the quiet position-the valves are closed. I will do as you said, I assume while the car is running-correct?

Dharn, thanks for the help on this. Your suggestion of unplugging the switch over valve worked. The muffler was loud again, but the PSE switch stayed lit. Is it safe to assume it's the switch over Valve I need to replace, and not the relay?

If the switchover valve opens when you remove the wires/power from it I am thinking that it is not the valve but more likely the relay. But I might try to disconnect the tip switch first. The tip switches trigger relays. It might be possible for one of the switches to,go bad and send a constant signal to the relay (I am not an electrical engineer so I am guessing here). It is pretty easy to pop out the batwing trim. Then disconnect the wire socket on the back of the switch and see if the valve open. If not then the relay would be the next thing to try, but I think you will have to replace it to see.

Thanks for the help. The problem ended up being the relay. The part number for the relay is 996.618.980.03 and cost $149.
