Second that. Most all my cars have been dark colors and the tint adds continuity. My 997.1 is black and I wouldn't go "un"tinted.

Get tint for sure. But make sure it is a high quality tint and even more important, that you go with someone that does a high quality application.

There are lots of half-*** jobs out there...it looks horrible if not done right.

NAY. Tint looks cheap and like your trying to hide something. Plus is hard to drive at night. Driving a Porsche is about the experience, I like clean windows, easy to see and tasteful, tinted windows are for SEMA Cars or if you live in the Ghetto.

Tint for sure! But go for the light tint. Keeps your car cooler and UV protected. Too dark I agree it might look a bit gheto.

Almost by default I've had my windows tinted with HuperOptik upon taking ownership. I haven't with my Basalt Black 996 and not sure I will either. They are pretty small and the AC seems to have no problem cooling off the interior quickly.

Another reason is the persistent 996/997 inside window streaking issue. It would mar the tint pretty quickly I think.

Interesting. That's the first time I've heard that. Raises some concern. When I owned a 350z I had the windows tinted and had inside window streaking on the driver side window. I was told that was common as well. Of course, after I got the tint. It wasn't extremely noticeable, but enough to annoy me.
Have any other owners seen or heard of this issue as well?

It's out there. Search for 996 or 997 inside window streak. Several threads on RL and other car forums.

It's a issue for both my windows, but more pronounced on passenger side. Apparently it's a felt pad on the window regulator that gets dirty. It can be cleaned or removed.

Just another one of those idiosyncrasies, along with the lazy to retract drivers seat belt.

Another yea, here.

The tint shop is one of the first mods I make to any car I buy. It really helps keep the temps down in the summer, protects interior degradation, looks great when done well, makes it harder for bad guys to see what you have in the car when it's parked, and it even adds a small amount of protection should someone try to smash and grab through a window.

Use a window cleaner without ammonia when cleaning, though, or you'll just have to start all over.

I went for years without it in Florida but added it a few months ago. Have speed yellow 996 cab with black top and black wheels. Dark tint compliments this look nicely. Streaking can happen but its not nearly as bad as I was afrad it might be. Guess my felt is farly clean or I'm just not that picky.

Ok...just came from the tint shop. I was going to make an appointment for next weekend, but they had a cancellation and said to bring it in. Pleased with the job. Made a big difference. I'll take pics tomorrow since it's dark out now.

Def get a pro installer - the rear window glass is difficult to access and has the defog surface wiring that can create some very small crinkles in the tint if applied by an amateur.
