Window tint...Yay or Nay
Window tint...Yay or Nay
Trying to decide if I want to tint the windows or not. All of my vehicles have/had tint, but I'm just not so sure I want to tint the windows on the Porsche. These days it seems as though tint is somewhat frowned upon on certain vehicles. Does it cheapen the look somewhat? I never go extra dark or anything. Just a light semi-illegal tint

I can go either way....my 996 has tint and my 997 does not. My road car (997) does not have it because it tends to be dark in the winter in the northwest so I like the better visibility. My 996 is used pretty much only in the summer for track season to Tint is fine and it looks good. Depends what you want.
Florida here, tint a must, looks great on a black car! I have an Artic Silver car with tint, here is my scheme; back windows 5%, drivers and passengers windows 15%, front windshield 50%. Yes, I tint the front windshield
On a black Porsche, hell ya. I have a 35% all the way around. It brings the whole P-car together. Looks aggressive.

Look at rrrruben's car, and now compare to one of my prior 911s - almost the exact same car, right down to the black wheels - but his is tinted and mine wasn't.
Take note this is on a black or basalt black car- WHen I first bought my car it wasnt tinted, and my rule was to tint a medium to darker shade ( varies) on all my cars...the owner told me it took away from the "lines" of the 911. I didnt really think so and ended up tinting.
After owning for a while, I did notice that the windows seemed to "blend" in and what most could be seen was just the outer top shape...hope this makes sense on what I'm typing and yes some lines of the car seemed to be visually masked.
I ended up taking off the darker tint and still tinting but just the lightest shade , sorry didnt really pay attn to %. BUt love it and think its way to go. Adds a gray type shade and blends well with black.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'm going with tint. Just not too dark but dark enough to look good. I can't settle with the "legal" percent. There's barely any difference between the legal tint and no tint here in VA. In Northern VA the cops don't even bother you about tint. It's usually a secondary offense. However, visiting my grandmother out in a rural part of VA a couple years ago was a different story. Going down a side street a state trooper pulled out of nowhere fishtailing and everything just to pull me over for it. I guess that's as much action as they get out there. My tint wasn't that dark but I got a ticket for it and was told to have it removed. I paid the ticket but kept the tint.
rrrruben and leftlane: Thanks for the comparison photos. That definitely helped with my decision.
150shot: I know what you mean. I saw a photo of a black 911 with extra dark tint and I didn't really care for it. Something looked off.

Glad your going with tint, im sure you will be happy. I did 40% on my Porsche and I am VERY happy with it. 40% is not too dark to get you harassed by the police but looks a decent amount darker. Very nice look, and protects from the horrible UV rays.
For window tint, it no longer is necessary to go dark to block heat. Nano IR Technology window tint is the new wave:

Get GOOD tint film, NOT 3M, they make good double sided tape but not film. When you decide, get it done and leave the car in the sun for as long as possible so the film dries out and really bonds to the glass, this my friend is the most important step, do not use glass cleaner with amonia in it as well as this will cause the film to become cloudy.
Good luck!
