$900 handbrake fix?!!!
$900 handbrake fix?!!!
Okay, just took the car into the dealer to get a bunch of little things fixed. The glue holding the piece of wood onto the handbrake has ceased to do its job so the dealer said it would be $900 to fix it. My tech guy said this was the price that showed up on his computer and he agreed that the price was total bs. Does anyone know what type of adhesive is used to hold the trim on so I can just fix it myself? Thanks in advance
You can use some epoxy glue or crazy glue, both can be found from Home Depot. Clean up the mating surface if there is residual ahesive.
Don't put too much or else it'll ooze out and make a mess. New brake handle is about $300-350 and it's probly 1 hr to put in a new one so I don't know how $900 is determined.

silicon can be real good for those types of repairs because you have a relatively large surface area and the silicon has flexibility that doesn't crack off like brittle adhesives. It's also the easiest to remove if you need to.
If the handbrake really sells for only $300, then this only further proves how the dealer loves sticking it to you. How they came up with that price is a mystery, but thanks for the tips, i'll probably pick some silicone up this weekend as soon as I get the car back and see how that works. I'll post some pics as well. Thanks for the input
silicon softens w heat and will lose it's adhesivenss when hot. under the sun, it'll be a matter of time when it comes off again.
get it permanently glued instead. save the embarrassment when you pull off the handbrake w a passenger looking at you like wow - you just pulled your Porsche into pieces.

I don't know where you come up with your info, but you are way off here! Have you ever notice that some engines use only silicone for gaskets in certain parts? Silicone doesn't soften even the slightest around heat....
The handbrake is leather and wood with aluminum trim, so maybe thats where the bogus $900 comes from. $1500 for the carbon fiber one? Good thing yours was covered by warranty wyo996.
Take a hair dryer to a cured silicon such as your bathtub chaulking and you'll see it melting and soften. It's a good sealant since it's flexible but not a good adhesive when exposed to heat.

WTF??? $1500??? I've purchased two carbon fiber ebrakes and two carbon fiber shifters - the nice kind with aluminum trim and porsche in aluminum(don't know how to explain it) and they are only about $300-400 each
