Kenwood 6990 upgrade

I just upgraded the sound system .I kept the Bose speakers and sub, but had to change the amp(Alpine 5 channel). Very satisfied with this unit ,sound quality is excellent ,blutooth,garmin/nav-tec navigation etc,all the goodies, plus backup camera.and I changed the boot up screen with the Porsche logo along with the regular background screen.....next up radar/laser jammer system ,ill post some info and pics after install.

I just added the 6990 to my 996 as well. Very cool system, I'm 100% happy with it.

I have the 9990HD and have enjoyed it so far. Where did you position the mic for the bluetooth?

Kenwood makes great stuff. I upgraded mine a few years ago to the DNX-6960.

I put the mic in the factory location.

I have the mic on the steering column. I've played with all of the settings and having the mic volume on 12 and echo +1 and noise on +1 seems to work best for the caller on the other end.

When you replace the factory radio with an aftermarket radio, what do you do to keep the alarm from beeping on arming? I thought there was a switch that the factor radio pressed against to keep it from beeping unless it's removed when the alarm is on.

There is one wire that comes from the chassis/sleeve of the OEM radio. You can't miss it its on the right side of the sleeve that the radio slides into. When you remove the sleeve tape off that wire and bury it way in the back of the opening for the radio...... Done.

How did you get it to display the Porsche logo on the screen?

You can load images from a USB stick for wallpaper or startup screen.

hi guys,
new member saying hello and also wondering where people got the Porsche logo, does it have to be a specific size?
i just fitted the kenwood dnx 4230dab to my 997, absolutely loving it, definitely highlights the limitations with the stock unit!
cheers
dan

I found my logo with a google search. There is an optimum size recommended for the splash screen, although I don't remember it. I think it's in the manual.

Interesting. I have a long-standing affection for Kenwood stemming from my experience with their ham radio gear - I have had numerous KW ham units, currently have 3 handhelds and 4 mobile units. I have had 5 different Kenwood car stereos in several different vehicles and every one of them has failed me. The one in my 2000 996 displays "protect" right now, and wont do a darn thing. I think I am done with KW car stereos for good.
