I liked the suggestion of putting in a bottom scoop like the Mustang P51 fighters. But them, same as the Mustangs, your pretty vulnerable from underneath. I do think your best bet is to simply get the turbo side panels and convert the turbo intercooler scoops to your air intake. Course then the car would look like a turbo, not a C$S. I'd actually stay away from the window scoops, might spoil the lines of the car. But its a cool project, and I'll bet you get it all worked out ok. The car will surely be a screamer. What are you doing to beef up the rear suspension, by the way? Good luck with this.
No need for suspension build up. The LS motors weigh the same as the 96 and are 80lbs less then the Turbos. Buy a turbo and remove the engine, Why? This build is possiable because of a IMS failure.

I'm surprized by the weight, never would have thought that. Sure understand the IMS. Sorry that happened. I was so worried about it that I did the LNE fix as a prophy. Sleep better at night. Your skills re this project are awesome. Keep us advised of your progress. I'd love to see the car someday. May be in New Orleans later this year. Cheers, jl

ps: what's the aircraft?

yep, good old A10. Best warplane ever made, imho. hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but that portside engine up there gave her away. Thanks for sharing...I was pretty sure I had it right on first impression. Cheers,

Please keep this thread updated with LOTS of pictures!

I find the LS motor swap into a 996 fascinating! I really want to find a salvage title or IMS failure 996 & do a LS3 swap into it. Heads would roll!

Are you installing a brand new LS3 motor or taking it from a Corvette or Camaro?

Are you doing the install yourself...if so I'm assuming you're more than a shade tree mechanic?

I've been following this blog closely...not sure if you're familiar with it

Kchoiej, Thanks, I'm still thinking about the motor source while I'm getting the rest of the car in shape. I'll probably go with the LS3/480hp from Summit or Jegs, mostly cause it's plug/play and I won't have to worry about computer issues.

Got the engine rear access panel complete and the remote power steering pump installed, need to wire it. have not purchased the LS3 yet, spent too much of our savings on the house last couple months.
