I bought my car and had it done before I drove the car.... To me it was worth the money for piece of mind.

I did not have the IMS service done myself, but service records show my car had it done twice. Seems a bit odd, but maybe the second owner came across a better version and "upgraded" for peace of mind?

Sounds like the IMS retrofit rather than the IMS solution.

The LNE IMS retrofit should (according to LNE) be considered a maintenance item - you have it replaced whenever you change your clutch, because at the end of the day its just a more robust version of what Porsche originally installed (not quite true - but what I'm getting at is the lack of pressure fed oil into the bearing).

the IMS solution is a different beast. It adds pressure fed oil to the IMS bearing (which is what the GT3's and higher end variants have had all along) which is why LNE considers it a permanent solution.

What I'm not clear on is whether the IMS solution can be retrofitted, or if it is installed as part of a rebuild? (Anyone?)

The IMS Solution is no more difficult to install than the IMS Retrofit kit. We offer both the Solution as well as the Retrofit kit which you may read further detail on here:
LN Engineering IMS Kits

There are two Retrofit kits depending on whether you have a single or dual row bearing.

Just bought a 2001 C4 with 54K had the IMS replaced in May, since a C4 the cost was 4K including oil seal and checkout.

If you buy the kit from Pelican I dont think there is any waranty. Its a personal decision but dont forget its an expensive engine.

Raby's picked up my car Friday. Its on the way to his shop in Georga and I know he will check all 23 other known M96 fault areas before he does the sollution. That of course are the extras you get when you have his shop do the install and he stands behind it with a waranty. I am sure it is money well spent. Cant wait to get it back!

Had IMS and RMS replaced while having work done on the transmission at 41k for peace of mind. IMS was good condition when removed.

Mine had the LN ceramic bearing installed when I bought it. It was a selling point for me although after speaking with local dealer mechanics and independents, its kind of blown out of proportion on the internet. Still I feel a little more comfortable knowing mine is already resolved. I have the original bearing still, it was in good shape when replaced.

Attention to the IMS bearing is typically done during a clutch change just as you did. It's not uncommon to include the AOS replacement as well during this downtime, again as you did.

I did the LN IMSB upgrade. Seems like this thread has a mishmash of replies that are not clearly distinguishing between "The IMS Solution" and the LNS ceramic bearing. Two totally different things. Some might even be confusing it with the RMS. Lots of these thread posts just aren't clear.

Oh, and if you look over on Rennlist, Raby is royally pissed that "his" Solution is being sold to the public. I think he's about to blow a Rear Main Seal.
